‘Dune’ Director Granted Dying Fan’s Last Wish To See Part 2 Early
MOVIE MAGIC
A Canadian man had one dying wish: to see Dune: Part Two before he passed. Thanks to the help of a charity and director Denis Villeneuve, the man’s wish was granted just a few days before he died. In an interview with The Washington Post, Josée Gagnon, the founder of the charity who connected the dying man and the director, described the “race against time” to deliver the film to the man, who she did not name to respect his family’s privacy. Gagnon described how she initially put out the request on Facebook, which reached Villeneuve shortly after. He first wanted to fly the man to Montreal or Los Angeles, but Gagnon said it was “impossible” given the man’s frail condition. Instead, Villeneuve sent his laptop to the palliative care center in Quebec where the man was staying, and it reached him on Jan. 16. According to Gagnon, Villeneuve and his wife were moved by the man’s passion. “They told me, ‘It’s precisely for him that we make films,’” she said.
