The U.S. State Department has advised Americans to not travel in certain areas of Mexico after eight dead bodies were discovered in Cancun since Tuesday, according to a department release. The agency noted that “some areas have increased risk” including “homicide, kidnapping, carjacking, and robbery.” They also advised against travelling to specific areas like Quintana Roo state due to “targeted” assassinations in tourist areas like Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum. The eight dead bodies found in Cancun appear to be victims of homicides. The remains of a man and woman were found stuffed in the back of a taxi parked in Chedraui de la Multiplaza shopping mall in the city’s Paseos del Mar subdivision, according to Riviera Maya News. The Associated Press reports the bodies of two men were also found dismembered and stuffed into “several plastic bags” in another location. This comes as there has been an uptick in violence in the resort town, with 57 murders reported in April alone.
