Last week, the wife of drug kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman told a television station that attending his trial every day was what “any wife would do.” But on Monday, Emma Coronel Aispuro was nowhere to be seen in the Brooklyn courtroom—for the first time in six weeks. The New York Post reported that the beauty queen’s absence seemed to take even Guzman by surprise, and he kept looking around for a glimpse of her. Aispuro told Telemundo last week that her husband of 10 years is a simple man who was made “too famous” by the media and is now paying for it. But, the mother of two added, she has faith that “everything will turn out well for him.”
