Ex-Fleetwood Mac lead guitarist and vocalist Lindsey Buckingham was attacked by a suspected stalker in Santa Monica, California, on Wednesday, reports NBC Los Angeles. Buckingham was ambushed as he walked into an appointment by a woman who knew he would be there, sources told the local network. The alleged assailant reportedly threw an “unknown substance” on the Grammy-winning musician. Buckingham, 76, was not injured, and an arrest was not immediately made—though the suspect has been identified by local cops, according to NBC Los Angeles. The Daily Beast has reached out to Buckingham for comment. The Bay Area native joined Fleetwood Mac in 1975 as part of the band’s most iconic lineup with Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, and Christine McVie. He won two Grammy awards with the band, including Album of the Year for 1977’s Rumors, and wrote one of their biggest hits, Go Your Own Way. Despite an acclaimed career with the band, including being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Buckingham was fired from Fleetwood Mac in 2018 over a dispute with the 77-year-old Nicks over tour dates.
