Former Texas police officer Roy Oliver was found guilty of murder Tuesday in the shooting death of 15-year-old Jordan Edwards, according to The Dallas Morning News. Oliver, a 38-year-old white cop, fired into a car carrying five teenagers as they were leaving a house party in April 2017, killing Edwards, an unarmed black teenager. After 12 hours of deliberations on Monday and Tuesday, a Dallas jury determined that Oliver was not justified in the shooting. The jurors found him not guilty on two counts of “aggravated assault in connection with the shooting.” Body-camera footage from the day of the shooting shows Oliver and his partner responding to a rowdy house party. While the officers were speaking to the host inside the home, shots rang out at a nearby nursing home. Oliver and his partner ran out of the house and began moving toward the nursing home. The newspaper reports that Jordan was dead “within 54 seconds.” Oliver, who was fired from the Balch Springs Police Department days after the shooting, told the court that he thought the car, a Chevrolet Impala, was going to hit his partner.
