The Missouri woman who was fatally shot with her children and mother seemed to have a “wonderful” relationship with the man now accused of killing them, her grieving father told NBC News. Kate Kasten, 39, was killed in her home on Friday along with her two young children and mother. The boyfriend, Richard Darren Emery, is due to be arraigned on 15 counts, including first-degree murder, assault, and attempted robbery. Kasten’s father, Rick Moeckel, told NBC News that he couldn’t believe Emery would commit such a terrible act. “I thought I knew him well,” Moeckel said. “[But] the booking picture shows a Darren Emery that I did not know. I looked at that picture and it just looks like there’s no soul there.” The father said Emery was friendly, but at times appeared high strung and insecure. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities say they have yet to find a motive. “We may never know,” St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney Tim Lohmar said at a news conference Saturday.
