First U.S. Measles Death Since 2003

A Colorado woman has died of measles, likely after being exposed to the virus in a medical facility during an outbreak. Her symptoms presented in an unusual way, so her cause of death—pneumonia due to measles—was not diagnosed until an autopsy was performed. She was the first American to die of the condition since an isolated case in 2003, and the tragedy comes amid a growing number of parents refusing to vaccinate their children against the disease.
