Five Charged in ‘Smuggling Scheme’ After Crash of SUV Fleeing Border Patrol

Five people were charged in a human “smuggling scheme,” federal prosecutors said Tuesday, after an SUV carrying 14 people crashed while fleeing border patrol agents in Texas on Sunday. Prosecutors said the scheme involved nearly two dozen immigrants. Twelve people were ejected from the vehicle when it overturned, killing five. The SUV was going over 100 mph.
