Senators on the commerce subcommittee have referred former U.S. Olympic Committee CEO Scott Blackmun for investigation by the Department of Justice for potentially lying in front of Congress, according to a press release issued by Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) on Friday. Blackmun resigned as chief executive officer of the U.S. Olympic Committee at the beginning of the year after facing calls from two senators to step down for his role in the Larry Nassar sex-abuse scandal. “The Subcommittee takes its oversight role seriously, and it appears that Mr. Blackmun has made false claims and misled our Subcommittee—harming the investigation and ability to develop policy,” said Sens. Moran and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) in the statement. “Just as importantly, survivors of abuse have had to wait longer for the truth and longer for systemic changes to help prevent others from similar injury.”
