Croatian police arrested four men on Wednesday in connection to a burglary of precious Indian jewels that were on display in a Venetian palace earlier this year, the Associated Press reports. The men, reportedly “all Croatians ranging in age from 43 to 60,” were arrested in a joint investigation with the Italian police. A statement from Croatian police reportedly did not say whether the jewels stolen from the Al Thani Collection—which has pieces that date back to the Mughal Empire—were recovered. A brooch and a pair of earrings worth $3 million were stolen on the final day of the January 2018 exhibition. One of the men arrested is allegedly linked to several major heists and is wanted by Switzerland for a 2011 jewelry heist. Croatian police claim he is linked to a multinational “Pink Panther” gang of thieves.
