French Police Recover $1.3M Ring Stolen From Fiancée of Napoleon Bonaparte Descendant
SACRE BLEU
French police have recovered a $1.4 million ring stolen from Prince Jean-Christophe Napoléon, a descendant of Napoléon Bonaparte, and his fiancee, The Telegraph reports Monday. The ring, featuring a 40-carat diamond taken from the crown of the country’s last empress, was allegedly swiped when a thief stole Countess Olympia von Arco-Zinneburg’s purse from the couple’s Mercedes last Monday. After reporting the theft to police, the pair reportedly checked their bank accounts and found that someone had just made a purchase at a sushi restaurant with Arco-Zinneburg’s credit card and checked himself into a hotel. Police grabbed an image of the suspect, who is described as a 30-year-old Egyptian, from nearby surveillance cameras, and tracked him down over the weekend. “[The suspect] apparently didn’t realize the value of the ring,” a source told The Telegraph. “The investigators did a great job. It was a race against the clock as he could have disposed of it at any time.”
