Gene Hackman’s surviving dogs are in the care of authorities, after the actor, his wife, and one of their pet pooches were mysteriously found dead. A dead German Shepherd dog was found in the bathroom closet around 10 to 15 feet from Betsy Arakawa, while two other dogs were also found alive at the New Mexico home. TMZ reported that Santa Fe County Animal Control is working with Hackman’s family to “ensure the safety of the two dogs.” The publication reported that the County Sheriff’s Office said an autopsy hadn’t been carried out on the deceased animal yet, but it could be—dependent on the result of tests on Hackman and his wife. Multiple reports suggest testing can take anything from four to six weeks to yield results. Meanwhile, a search warrant affidavit said of the two surviving pooches, one was found close to Betsy’s body while the other ran loose on the property.
