There are currently nine wildfires burning in drought-stricken California. A fire north of Los Angeles has scorched more than 20,000 acres, and another near Big Sur has burned over 10,000 acres. As of Sunday the northern L.A. fire had been 10 percent contained and the Monterey County fire was less than 5 percent contained. Thousands of firefighters battle low humidity, shifting winds, and triple-digit temperatures. Countless animals are being relocated; over 1,800 homes are in immediate danger; and one human casualty was reported as of Sunday afternoon.
