Gillian Anderson Says ‘The Crown’ Shouldn’t Cover Present Kate Middleton Cancer Drama

Gillian Anderson, who played U.K. Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on Netflix’s The Crown, reportedly told The Sun that the series—which retells the true-life foibles of the British Royals—shouldn’t be resurrected to cover current events, out of respect for the famous family. The Sun asked Anderson whether more episodes of the show should be produced. The Crown concluded after season 6 with the 2005 wedding of now-King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla. “I think it probably ended at the right spot,” Anderson said. “It was getting too close to present day. Right now, it’s a moment where we understand that they have asked for a bit of peace and quiet around what they’re experiencing—and it feels like that’s the least that we can do.” Last week, after months of conspicuous absence from public life, Kate Middleton announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. “I think in this instance with this latest double whammy of news, the least that people can do, is to give them a bit of a break and for them to process this as the human beings that they actually are,” Anderson told The Sun.
