Golf legend Jim Colbert died on Sunday of an undisclosed cause. He was 85. Colbert was famous for wearing a bucket hat in all his competitions, making it his trademark as he secured eight PGA Tour wins and 20 victories on the PGA Tour Champions. “Lee Trevino has his sombrero, Jack Nicklaus has the bear. I have my hat,” Colbert once said about his favorite accessory. The New Jersey native was a natural at golf, beginning during his college years after an initial stint as a football player. He finished as runner-up in the NCAA Championship in 1964. Five years later, Colbert won his first PGA Tour title at the 1969 Monsanto Open. He went on to tie for fourth in the Masters and finish fifth in the U.S. Open in 1974. In 1983, he won twice on the PGA Tour and finished 15th on the money list. Colbert won the Transamerica in 1996, just two years after having his prostate removed following a cancer diagnosis. The bucket hat enthusiast was also highly successful in business, starting a company in 1980 that owned 23 golf courses and employed 700 people, earning him an annual gross revenue of $50 million.
