House Republicans nominated Paul Ryan as speaker of the House on Wednesday, ahead of a Thursday vote that will formally make him John Boehner’s successor. The vote was 200-43, with Rep. Daniel Webster of Florida coming in second. After earning the support, but not the endorsement, of the House Freedom Caucus, Ryan’s election was all but inevitable.
