Government Shutdown Continues as Senate Adjourns For Holidays With No Deal

The Senate adjourned Saturday afternoon for the Christmas holidays without coming to terms on a deal that would end a partial shutdown of the government that kicked in at midnight Saturday. Negotiations over a spending bill are expected to continue but for now the Senate is adjourned until Thursday, December 27. The president who torpedoed an agreement on Friday because it didn't contain funding for his wall, hinted at a prolonged impasse in tweet Saturday noting that negotiations with Democrats were continuing “but it could be a long stay.”
