Health Groups Sue FDA Over Delay in E-Cigarette Regulation

Major health groups filed a lawsuit against the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday after the agency announced it would delay its regulation of e-cigarettes. The American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Heart Association, and the American Lung Association claim that the delay will “leave teens and young adults vulnerable to tobacco addiction.” The growth in popularity of e-cigarettes—including the JUUL vaporizer—among young adults has caused concern, and groups fear that delaying regulation of these products will leave kids in “unnecessary jeopardy.” Supporters of the regulation delay claim that taking novelty products off the market would favor Big Tobacco products, which are seen as more dangerous.
