The concept of in vitro meat, grown in a laboratory from bits of muscle tissue, has been abstractly thrown around scientific circles for some time. But very soon it will be presented and eaten at an event in London. Scientists in the Netherlands are preparing to present five-ounce hamburger with a hefty price tag: it cost $325,000 to create. “Let’s make a proof of concept, and change the discussion from ‘this is never going to work’ to, ‘well, we actually showed that it works, but now we need to get funding and work on it,’” said Dr. Mark Post, who's been developing the burger.
