School officials in New Hampshire have launched an investigation after video surfaced this weekend of two high school students singing a song about the Ku Klux Klan to the tune of “Jingle Bells.” The song, which featured the refrain, “KKK, KKK, Let’s kill all the blacks,” was reportedly part of a history class assignment at Dover High School in which 11th graders were allowed to create a jingle for the history event of their choice. Superintendent William Harbron slammed the song as “an incident of extreme racial insensitivity” in a letter to the community on Monday morning. The class is reportedly seen laughing in the video as the students sing the jingle. Harbron and Dover High School Principal Peter Driscoll have said they do not believe the students intended for the song to be malicious, but the teacher could have done more to explain to the class why the song was not appropriate. A decision reportedly has not yet been made on whether the students or the teacher will face disciplinary action.“We’re still trying to sort it out at this point,” Harbron was quoted as saying by Foster's Daily Democrat. “Right now it’s getting the message out about what occurred, what we need to do differently, what can we learn from this, and how do we change our practices from the lessons learned so that everybody feels accepted and wanted here.”
