As one door closed for Dominique Strauss-Kahn, another opened for François Hollande. Hollande is officially the French Socialist Party’s candidate for the 2012 election. Martine Aubry, who was running against Hollande in the primary, conceded on Sunday. Hollande will now face French President Nicolas Sarkozy. In his speech, the candidate said that he will win for those who can “no longer bear” Sarkozy’s reign. The primary election was the first of its kind for French voters, and an estimated 2.7 million voters took part. Opinion polls show that, right now, Hollande would defeat Sarkozy.
