House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer was hospitalized Tuesday and diagnosed with pneumococcal pneumonia, according to his spokeswoman, but he is predicted to make a full recovery. The 79-year-old Maryland Democrat is being treated with antibiotics and is currently resting, said spokeswoman Katie Grant, adding in a statement: “He looks forward to being back at work very soon.” Hoyer is being treated at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington DC. The minority whip was reportedly campaigning over the weekend with Democratic incumbents and swing district candidates in Wisconsin and Illinois.
