Hundreds of demonstrators gathered at New York City’s LaGuardia Airport on Wednesday night to show their support for immigrant children being flown in under the Trump administration’s “zero-tolerance” border policy. President Trump signed an executive order to end the policy earlier in the day, though children believed to have been separated from their families at the U.S. border continued to arrive late into the night, activists said. The American Civil Liberties Union posted on Twitter that several hundred people had gathered in Terminal B to “witness and monitor” the children’s arrival. Many demonstrators held up signs in Spanish that read, “You are not alone” and “We are with you.” Filmmaker Michael Moore sought to mobilize New York City residents to join in the demonstration on Twitter, saying people were needed at the scene to “document/protest this travesty.” “Planes are still arriving TONIGHT (after midnight) at LaGuardia Airport RIGHT NOW w/ children taken from their parents at the border,” he wrote. Many were quick to question why the children were being transported after Trump vowed to end the practice, and why they were arriving in the dead of night.
