A devastated mom has recalled the moment she lost her 7-year-old son Micah in the ravaging flood waters of Hurricane Helene. Megan Drye is part of a family whose final photo sitting on top of their house in Asheville, North Carolina went viral. Drye, her parents, Michael and Nora, 73, Micah, and the family dog were pictured seeking shelter on their roof as the river around them rose below them. “We started drifting in the water. We were floating. The house was breaking apart,” Drye recalled, telling the New York Post that the family was separated by the rough currents as soon as they hit the water and though she was stuck, she could hear Micah’s cries until he went quiet: “Jesus, save me!” Drye added: “I was trying to unwind myself from this tree so I could get to my son, but I was stuck. Every time I let go, the water was pushing me back. It was pushing buildings, cars, trailers. I had no chance to swim back.” Michael and Micah’s bodies were discovered a few days later, while Nora’s body was found eight days later half a mile away. “There are no words to describe losing half of your heart, losing your child or your parents,” she said. “But I know they are at peace. My parents’ faith was strong, and they are where they want to be. My son’s last words were calling out to Jesus, and I know he is happy with Jesus now.”
