Hurricane Raymond Drenches Mexico

SOAKED

Weakens about 135 miles off the coast.

Hurricane Raymond weakened slightly as it soaked Mexico’s Pacific Coast, but is still expected to dump between two to four inches of rain. Raymond grew to a Category 3 storm, with winds at 120 mph, but since it is only 25 miles long, the storm remained a distant threat to Mexico. Forecasters say the storm is likely to lose steam Tuesday and then turn westward in the Pacific. A hurricane warning has been issued from Lazaro Cardenas to Tecpan de Galean, which is about 65 miles north of Acapulco. Forecasters also warned that the heavy rains could result in flash floods and mudslides.
