Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif announced his resignation on Instagram Monday. “I am apologizing to you for all the shortcomings ... in the past years during my time as foreign minister ... I thank the Iranian nation and officials,” he wrote in the post, according to Haaretz. Deputy Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Sayyed Abbas Moussawi reportedly confirmed to the Islamic Republic News Agency that Zarif had resigned. Zarif, known to be a prominent figure behind the Iran nuclear deal, told CBS News late last year that the country had remained faithful to the deal despite the U.S. pulling out.
