Not only was the Internal Revenue Service screening tax-exempt groups using the term "tea party," but it also watched for the words "Israel," "Progressive," and "Occupy." Acting IRS Chief Danny Werfel says he discovered the screenings were broader and lasted longer than disclosed previously. He also found the lists containing "inappropriate criteria" were still being used, and suspended them immediately. On Monday, Werfel released an 83-page report detailing his findings and next steps for the agency. While he notes "insufficient action" by managers of tax-exempt groups (five have already been removed), he says they "have not found evidence of intentional wrongdoing" elsewhere inside or outside the agency.
