Italy Surpasses China’s Coronavirus Death Toll With At Least 3,400 Deaths

The European country has about 40,000 less confirmed cases than mainland China, according to Johns Hopkins’ tally.

Italy surpassed China for the largest number of coronavirus deaths on Thursday, The Wall Street Journal reported. Italy hit 3,405 deaths due to the virus, surpassing mainland China’s 3,249 tally. According to Johns Hopkins University, there have been over 41,000 confirmed cases of the virus in the country—about 40,000 less than China’s 81,155. There are over 235,000 cases worldwide, and over 9,700 deaths around the world.
