Jamaica Decriminalizes Pot

SAY WHAT?

In other news, it was illegal.

Despite its long international reputation as a pot-friendly nation, Jamaica made it official Tuesday, passing a law that decriminalizes the possession of small amounts of marijuana and approves a “cannabis licensing authority” to regulate the medical-marijuana business. The law also permits growing up to five marijuana plants on any premises as well as using drugs for religious purposes—a victory for Jamaica’s Rastafarian movement. Tourists with a medical-marijuana prescription may also apply for a permit to buy locally.
