Jimmy Kimmel Rips Most ‘Preposterous’ Part of Trump Shilling for Tesla

'WHAT A TWIST'

“He’s finally turned into the used car salesman we all knew he was all along,” Kimmel joked.

Tesla stocks have plummeted recently, and Jimmy Kimmel could not be happier.

"Elon is having a heck of a week," he said in his Tuesday monologue. “Tesla sales are down all over the world. Yesterday, Tesla had its biggest drop in five years. Elon Musk lost almost $30 billion in stock value yesterday. He may have to fire himself!”

For Kimmel, the funniest part of the situation is President Donald Trump’s publicity stunt on Tesla’s behalf at the White House. Trump not only talked up Tesla to reporters, but he was handed note cards listing the prices and specs of various Tesla models.

“He’s finally turned into the used car salesman we all knew he was all along,” Kimmel joked.

Kimmel marveled at Trump and Musk’s situation, saying, “Just the idea that we all now have to dig deep to help the richest man in the world—who’s down to his last $324 billion—sell cars, is preposterous."

Musk’s new $324 billion net worth puts him over $120 billion below his peak, a fact Kimmel seemed pleased with.

“This is not a good time to own a Tesla vehicle,” Kimmel said. “There’ve been a lot of reports of angry Americans vandalizing Teslas, vandalizing charging stations, attacking the showrooms.”

Kimmel posited that Trump himself has no real interest in buying a Tesla as he’d claimed.

“I would imagine they probably don’t even have a place to charge it at,” Kimmel said. “Maybe he’ll make little Marco run on a hamster wheel.”

Kimmel also ripped into Trump for backpedaling on his years of bashing on electric vehicles.

“It’s really a thing of beauty,” Kimmel said. “What a twist. The guy who spent the entire campaign screaming about how awful electric cars are is now buying an electric car.”

The late night host joked, “[Trump] flip-flops from zero to 60 in under five seconds.”
