Former Vice President Joe Biden was the surprise winner of the Democratic primary in Texas on Super Tuesday, after clinching major wins in Minnesota, Massachusetts, and Virginia, as well as sweeping the Southern states. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) emerged the victor in contests across the West, including Colorado and Utah, along with the biggest prize of the night, California. He also won his home state of Vermont. At the time of publication, Biden had taken the lead in the delegate race, but Sanders expects to be allocated another large tranche of delegates when the count is completed in California.
