Samuel Wurzelbacher, the 2008 media sensation known as “Joe the Plumber,” who grilled Barack Obama during a campaign stop in Ohio, announced on Tuesday night that he’s making a bid for a Republican seat in Ohio’s Ninth Congressional District—where he could face a high-profile Democrat, Dennis Kucinich. Kucinich is expected to mount a race in the district, since redistricting has caused an estimated 57 percent of registered Democrats from his old district to now be in Ohio's Ninth. The race is likely to be closely watched with the two high-profile candidates facing off, although Kucinich will first have to challenge incumbent Democrat Marcy Kaptur, who has held the seat there since 1983.
