John McCain’s family has hit out at a Republican Party group after it featured him in attack ads against Democratic candidates, just weeks after his death. The ads, released by the National Republican Congressional Committee, show old footage of the late senator criticizing current Democratic candidates in Arizona and Michigan. “The McCain family believes it’s unfortunate that the senator’s image is being weaponized this election season,” a family spokesperson told NBC News. “They hope that there would be more respect, especially so soon after his passing.” The NRCC dismissed the family’s criticism, saying the “ad speaks for itself.” McCain died of brain cancer at age 81 on Aug. 25, just over a year after his diagnosis.
