In an interview with WCCO Radio, Minnesota Representative and Democratic National Committee co-chair Keith Ellison said he is considering stepping down from the DNC in light of the abuse allegations made against him. “You know, I’ve been evaluating that recently so we’ll see,” Ellison said. “I need to put 100 percent of my time, energy and resources into the race and my office, so it is something I am considering.” Ellison, who is currently running for Minnesota attorney general, denies that he ever physically or emotionally abused his ex-girlfriend Karen Monahan. Monahan accused him of “dragging her off a bed by her feet… while screaming obscenities” in a 2016 incident, and claimed she had a recording of it. A lawyer was then hired by Minnesota’s Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party to investigate. When the lawyer asked Monahan to turn the video over, she refused and allegedly gave “shifting explanations.” The lawyer ultimately concluded that the claims could not be substantiated. Ellison said that in hiring the lawyer, the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party “wasn’t trying to look out” for him. “It was just looking out for itself to make sure that its brand was strong,” he said.
