The Kremlin has dismissed speculation that Donald Trump has been working on its behalf, and attacked the U.S. media for undermining the president. “It’s hard for me to comment on what is happening in the U.S. surrounding accusations that President Trump is effectively a Russian agent,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference Wednesday. He went on to attack the American media and Congress for undermining Trump, accusing the media of “lowering their journalistic standards” on its reporting of Trump’s links to Russia and saying his right to make foreign policy is “under attack from Congress and this doesn’t make these attacks constitutional or less illegal.” Trump said Monday that he “never worked for Russia” following reports that the FBI became so concerned by his relationship with Moscow that it instigated an investigation into whether he was working for the Kremlin.
