Indie pop singer Lana Del Rey announced Friday that she will no longer be performing at Israel’s Meteor Festival after she faced criticism for allegedly legitimizing Israel over Palestine. “It's important to me to perform in both Palestine and Israel and treat all my fans equally,” she wrote in a note posted on Twitter. “Unfortunately it hasn't been possible to line up both visits with such short notice.” Al Jazeera reported Saturday that Del Rey’s decision comes after a series of pro-Palestine groups pressured her to drop the appearance in Israel, arguing that her concert would “cover up gross violations of human rights.” The groups started a petition that got over 14,000 signatures. Meteor Festival later responded to Del Rey’s announcement, noting that “We do appreciate her for choosing Meteor to help her score some press attention.”
