Another day, another incendiary Wayne LaPierre speech. The National Rifle Association head offended Congress once again Friday with a speech at CPAC implying that universal background checks and gun registries are simply vehicles to confiscate guns. LaPierre’s speech took an inflammatory turn when he claimed guns are vital in protecting women against rapists. “The one thing a violent rapist deserves to face is a good woman with a gun,” he said. Adding a bit of irony to his words, the speech followed a panel discussing the need for Republicans to change their tone.
