Legendary wrestling luchador Rey Misterio Sr., real name Miguel Ángel López Días, has died at age 66, according to a Facebook announcement by his son and fellow wrestler, El Hijo de Rey Misterio, Miguel Aarón López Hernández. “Friends and family, I regret to inform you that my Father, Miguel Ángel López Días, Rey Misterio Sr., Passed away this morning,” he wrote on Friday. “I will keep you informed. Thank you,” read the statement, which was originally posted in Spanish. Born in Tijuana, Mexico, Días started as a boxer before breaking into professional wrestling and lucha libre where his name, which translates to “Mysterious King” in English, is treated as royalty. In a statement, the Lucha Libre Worldwide promotion company also addressed Días’ death, writing “We mourn the unfortunate passing of Miguel Ángel López Días, known as Rey Misterio Sr. We send our deepest condolences to your loved ones and lift our prayers to heaven for your eternal rest.” Días’ nephew is WWE superstar Rey Mysterio, Óscar Gutiérrez Rubio.
