Suspect Luigi Mangione’s Goodreads account has seemingly offered insights into his life—including his relationship with his parents.
The account, which tracked what he has read and what was on his reading list, showed a book he wanted to get entitled Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents: How to Heal from Distant, Rejecting, or Self-Involved Parents.
Mangione was arrested on Monday in a Pennsylvania McDonald’s after a five-day manhunt following the killing of insurance company CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan.
TMZ reported that the Goodreads account was over eight years old, logging hundreds of books Mangione had read.
The self-help book was written by clinical psychologist Lindsay Gibson.
“If you grew up with an emotionally immature, unavailable, or selfish parent, you may have lingering feelings of anger, loneliness, betrayal, or abandonment,” the GoodReads summary read. “You may recall your childhood as a time when your emotional needs were not met, when your feelings were dismissed, or when you took on adult levels of responsibility in an effort to compensate for your parent’s behavior.”
The summary then goes on to say that the “wounds can be healed, and you can move forward in your life.”
Other books on Mangione’s account included Ted ‘Unabomber’ Kaczynski’s manifesto, where he commented: “When all other forms of communication fail, violence is necessary to survive.”
Also found on his Goodreads were books about back pain, which has been pointed to as a turning point in his life.
Mangione comes from a wealthy family which has significant real estate holdings and is known for philanthropy in Maryland.
He is the son of Louis and Kathleen Mangione and has two sisters.
On Monday, the family issued a statement saying, “We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson and we ask people to pray for all involved. We are devastated by this news.”
