The ghosts in Bernie Madoff’s closet are coming out to haunt him. On the heels of his daughter-in-law’s salacious memoir, in which she details husband Mark Madoff’s suicide, his wife, Ruth, is telling all in an exclusive interview with CBS that will air on Oct. 30. In a shocking confession on 60 Minutes, Ruth says she and Madoff also tried to kill themselves by overdosing on sleeping and anti-anxiety pills, including Ambien and possibly Klonopin. “I don’t know whose idea it was, but we decided to kill ourselves because it was so horrendous what was happening,” she tells 60 Minutes correspondent Morley Safer. “I took what we had, he took more,” she says. Mark Madoff had also unsuccessfully attempted suicide by taking 60 anti-anxiety and sleeping pills, before he hanged himself in December 2010.
