Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred said Tuesday that he supports the expansion of the league to two more cities, according to a Thursday report from Deadspin. “I hope I’m around long enough to see us expand,” Manfred told FS1, before listing cities that he thinks “are not only interested in having baseball, but are viable in terms of baseball.” That list includes Portland, Las Vegas, Charlotte, Nashville, Vancouver, and Montreal—many of which were in the running when the league last expanded in 1998. Manfred also floated adding a Mexican team to the league, noting that “We think there’s places in Mexico we could go over the long haul.” Manfred did not elaborate on how the addition of two team would affect the league’s structure and playoff format.
