A man who was widely mocked on social media as a “slob” for a viral video in which he was seen shaving on a New Jersey train says he was just trying to look “presentable” after leaving a homeless shelter. The man, Anthony Torres, told the Associated Press that the video taken of him by a fellow passenger had captured him at his most vulnerable. The video, which was posted to Twitter and had more than 2 million views by Monday, showed him sitting in his seat as he swiped a razor over his face and flung the shaving cream from the razor onto the floor. “My life is all screwed up. That’s the reason I was shaving on the train,” he said. “I don’t want to say that I’m homeless, let everybody know. That’s why I was shaving.” Torres, who said he’s suffered from serious health problems over the last few years and spent time living in bus depots, told the AP he had no idea he was being filmed on the train. “I never thought it would go viral, people making fun of me,” he said. His brother, Thomas Torres, told the AP that Anthony Torres showed up at his house after the train ride asking for a sleeping bag and suggesting he might spend the night under a bridge. A GoFundMe fundraiser set up for Torres on Monday had raised nearly $2,000 “to help him get back on his feet.”
