A domestic battery call in Orlando has become a 13-hour standoff between the suspect and a Florida SWAT team, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The standoff began late Sunday night, when officers responded to a woman’s claim that her husband was beating her. Shots were fired during an attempted arrest, and one officer was hit and rushed to the hospital. He was severely injured but expected to live. Orlando Police Chief John Mina told the Sentinel that the suspect remains in his apartment with four child hostages, aged 1, 7, 10, and 12. “Our main concern right now is the safety of the children in that apartment,” Mina said. A SWAT team has spoken multiple times with the suspect, but to no avail. “Hopefully he peacefully surrenders,” Mina added.
