After spending three days in the hospital for an acute respiratory infection, South African icon Nelson Mandela is being discharged to receive home-based care. South Africa's surgeon general said that the former president had responded well to his treatment. There had been no word on his condition as his hospital stay stretched on, sparking worries that his health might be failing.
