Tammy Bruce, a former Fox News contributor and Donald Trump’s pick for State Department spokesperson, has a history of mocking Sen. Marco Rubio, her likely future boss as nominee for secretary of state, on social media.
In posts from December 2015, highlighted Monday by Politico, Bruce used Donald Trump’s name for Rubio during that GOP primary season: “Little Marco.”
“Making Ted Cruz look even more appealing & confirming Little Marco as the Establishment’s Hail Mary,” Bruce wrote on Dec. 26 in response to an article about then-congressman Trey Gowdy being on the verge of endorsing Rubio.
Bruce referred to Rubio by that name at least seven more times that day alone.
A few weeks prior, Bruce reacted similarly to a story about Rubio labelling Sen. Ted Cruz, another presidential candidate at the time, as an “isolationist.”
“Aww,” Bruce wrote on X, “little Marco is already sounding like his Establishment handlers.”
On Feb. 6 of the following year, Bruce was critical of Rubio’s performance during that night’s GOP primary debate.
“Marco trying to insert himself in the NoKo ? to Cruz was weak. Like the kid waving frantically in the back of room trying to prove relevance,” she wrote.
A few days later, Bruce, who would be the secretary of state’s conduit to the public, commented, “I didn’t mute Trump but I had to mute Marco.”
When asked about her past statements, Bruce told Politico that it is “a pleasure to serve in President Trump’s administration and I am thrilled to work with Senator Rubio who has been one of the president’s strongest allies when it comes to the America First agenda.”
Bruce is the 17th current or former Fox News figure Trump has chosen to serve in his administration. The role doesn’t require Senate confirmation.
