A Marine reserve officer who sent explicit pictures of his ex-girlfriend to her parents has been sentenced to almost three years in prison, Newsweek reports. U.S. District Court Judge Marcia Crone reportedly sentenced 24-year-old Vincent Provines to 33 months in prison last week on “felony cyberstalking charges.” As The Daily Beast originally reported, Provines and his wife were accused of sending explicit photos of 23-year-old “Kate” to her parents. Provines will reportedly be required to attend mental-health treatment while incarcerated at an Oklahoma prison, and will be banned from “purchasing, possessing or having contact with any electronic device that connects to the Internet” for two years upon his release. Provines’ wife, ex-U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Cesaria Marquez, reportedly admitted to participating in the cyberstalking in a June plea deal and agreed to five years probation. Marquez and Provines were in divorce litigation as of 2018.
Kate reportedly approached The Daily Beast in 2017 while a scandal over a “Marines United” Facebook group—which was full of nude images—rocked the Departement of Defense. “I wasn’t a victim of this particular Marines United [scandal], but I’ve had two different Marines threatening to post photos of me on the Internet,” Kate told The Daily Beast. “They’ve already sent them to my parents, and they’re receiving constant harassment and threats.”
