WHAT DOES HE KNOW

North Carolina election officials will on Thursday interview Mark Harris, the Republican congressional candidate whose 2018 midterm campaign for the state’s 9th district remains mired in allegations of election fraud, according to a report from Talking Points Memo. Harris originally defeated Democrat Dan McCready by 905 votes—but the North Carolina State Board of Elections did not certify those results, and an investigation began soon after. The probe centers on the actions of Leslie McCrae Dowless, a GOP operative who has been accused of illegally collecting ballots from absentee voters. Harris’ campaign paid $34,000 to consulting firm Red Dome Group, which hired Dowless, but it remains unclear if Harris knew of Dowless’ alleged actions, or if they were significant enough to influence election results. Harris said earlier this week in a press release that he looked “forward to sitting down with the staff from the State Board of Elections” and to “answering any and all questions they have.”
