Marriage Protests Rock Paris

The majority of French support legalizing gay marriage, but you wouldn't have guessed it on Sunday. A plan to legalize same-sex marriage and allow couples to adopt or conceive children prompted an estimated 340,000 people to march across Paris. The demonstration converged on the Eiffel Tower, where protesters waved flags and held signs against President François Hollande's plan, which is expected to be introduced on Tuesday. If the French Parliament approves the plan, the country would become the 12th, and most influential, to legalize same-sex marriage.
