Maryland Democratic Gubernatorial Candidate Kevin Kamenetz Dies Suddenly

Maryland Democratic gubernatorial candidate Kevin Kamenetz died suddenly Thursday morning after a heart attack. The Baltimore County executive, who was 60, awoke in his home around 2 a.m. feeling ill and was pronounced dead an hour later, according to a statement from local authorities. Kamenetz was a city councilman for 24 years and joined the race for governor last October as one of several Democrats hoping to defeat Republican Gov. Larry Hogan in the 2018 race. The Baltimore Sun said his death has stunned his friends and colleagues, with his longtime aide Don Mohler saying: “I am just sitting in my office numb.” Gov. Hogan said: “The First Lady and I are shocked and grieved by the sudden passing of Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz. Our prayers go out to his family and many loved ones this morning.” Kamenetz is survived by his wife, Jane, and their two sons.
