A Maryland legislator was stripped of her leadership position and will undergo sensitivity training after witnesses claim she used a racial slur to describe a district in the state, The Washington Post reports. Del. Mary Ann Lisanti (D-Harford) was reportedly told that she would no longer chair the Unemployment Insurance Subcommittee on Tuesday morning for describing a district in Prince George's County as a “n----- district” in late January. “I deeply apologize... for my word choice several weeks ago,” Lisanti said in an apology statement. “I am sickened that a word that is not in my vocabulary came out of my mouth. It does not represent my belief system, my life’s work or what is my heart.” When Lisanti was questioned about the remark by the Post earlier this month, she said she didn't remember saying the slur. “I don’t recall that... I don’t recall much of that evening,” she said, adding that she was sure that “everyone has used” the n-word at some point in their lives.
